A drone strike sparked a fire just outside the United Arab Emirates' Barakah nuclear power plant on Sunday, with Abu Dhabi blaming Iran or one of its proxies and calling the incident a "dangerous escalation." The fire caused no injuries or radiation alerts but landed in the sixth week of a fraying ceasefire in the Iran war, the Guardian reported, and the UAE defence ministry said one of three drones entering from the western border had struck an electrical generator outside the plant's inner perimeter.

Emirati presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said on X that the targeting of the plant "represents a dangerous escalation," while foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan briefed IAEA chief Rafael Grossi and asserted the country's "full right to respond." Iran's Fars agency reported Washington had set five conditions in reply to Tehran's proposal, including keeping only one nuclear site operational and transferring its highly enriched uranium to the US. Trump said Friday he could accept a 20-year suspension of Iran's nuclear programme, an apparent softening from his earlier demand for its total end, the BBC reported.
