President
Donald Trump is in "excellent health" but should lose weight and exercise more, according to a White House memo summarising his annual medical exam. His physician, Captain Sean Barbabella, wrote that
Trump, who turns 80 next month, had "strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function" and was "fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief," the BBC reported.
What did the exam find?
Trump scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a common screening test, and his resting heart rate was 73 beats per minute, with his cardiac age estimated at about 14 years younger than his actual age, the BBC reported. The memo said he weighs 238lb (108kg), up 14lb since his April 2025 exam, and that he is on medication to control his cholesterol. Barbabella also addressed bruising seen on the president's hand, which the White House has previously attributed to frequent handshaking.
What was he advised? Barbabella said the president had been given guidance on diet, physical activity and continued weight loss, while concluding that his demanding schedule "continues to support his overall well-being." It was his third known check-up since returning to the White House last year, and he wrote on Truth Social that "everything checked out perfectly."
Why it matters:
Trump, the oldest person to be inaugurated US president, has long touted his stamina and energy, and his age and fitness have stayed a recurring theme in coverage of his term, with the White House releasing the memo in full to address the questions, the Guardian reported.
